Smarter Supplementing

Smarter supplementing for more balance

Your body is constantly changing. As a woman especially, you may go through phases where your energy, sleep, mood or hormones feel different from what you are used to.

Maybe this sounds familiar: you are tired more often, you sleep less well, your mood swings or you notice that your energy and recovery are no longer a given.

But how do you know what your body really needs?

A healthy lifestyle is always the foundation. Good food, enough exercise, relaxation and a good night's sleep are essential. Even so, it is not always possible to get enough of every nutrient your body needs from your food every single day.

That is why I believe in smarter supplementing. Not just adding all sorts of supplements, but looking carefully at what your body needs and choosing high-quality nutrients that can complement your daily diet.

One of the nutrients I value most is omega 3. Let me explain why.

Hormone balance & fatty acids

Did you know that fatty acids play an important role in your body?

Omega 3 and omega 6 are essential fatty acids. Your body needs them but cannot make enough of them on its own. That is why we depend on our food and, where needed, a suitable supplement. EPA and DHA in particular are important omega 3 fatty acids. You find them naturally in oily fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel and sardines.

Unfortunately, most people in the Netherlands do not eat enough oily fish each week, simply because they do not like it and/or find it too expensive.

Does this sound like you?

Maybe you recognise one or more of these signals:

  • Tiredness or low energy
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Frequent headaches
  • Menstrual complaints
  • Sensitive joints
  • Mood swings
  • Restless or sensitive skin
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Changes in weight or difficulty losing weight

Of course, these signals can have all kinds of causes. They do not automatically mean you have an omega 3 deficiency, but it may well be that your omega 3 and omega 6 index is out of balance. That is when I find it interesting to look beyond the symptoms alone. It is at the cellular level that fatty acids play such an important role.

Food as the foundation

Why omega 3?

My starting point is simple: food is the foundation. If you regularly eat oily fish, you are already getting valuable omega 3 fatty acids from your diet.

Not managing that on a regular basis? Then a good-quality omega 3 supplement can be a practical addition.

EPA and DHA in particular have been studied extensively. EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. DHA also contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision.

Omega 3 & omega 6

Alongside omega 3, omega 6 also plays an important role. Both are essential fatty acids, but they are found in different foods. That is why it is interesting to look at your complete fatty acid profile.

Measuring is knowing

A simple fatty acid test using a finger-prick test gives you insight into your personal fatty acid profile, including the ratio between omega 3 and omega 6.

After about five months you can test again and compare your results. That way you not only have a personal starting point, you can also see what has changed in the meantime.

Why I choose this fish oil

Not every fish oil is the same

When choosing, I look at quality, purity, origin, composition and ease of use.

For my omega 3 I work with a Norwegian family business that has been around since 1998. What appeals to me is their personal approach and their focus on trust, quality and long-term relationships.

The liquid fish oil contains a high concentration of EPA & DHA, sourced from cod caught in Norwegian waters. The oil is MSC and CoC certified and is produced with care for origin, sustainability and quality. The fish oil is also blended with high-quality olive oil from Crete, rich in antioxidants and polyphenols.

What makes this fish oil special?

  • High concentration of EPA & DHA
  • Cod from Norwegian waters
  • MSC and CoC certified
  • Made from by-products of fish processing
  • Low TOTOX value
  • Blended with olive oil from Crete, full of antioxidants and polyphenols
  • Easy to take every day, with no fishy aftertaste
  • Available for different age groups

What matters most to me is the care for quality, from source to final product.

Why a health course?

Consistency is the key

I prefer to call it a health course rather than just a subscription. Consistency matters when you want to complement your diet. So: take it every day!

Red blood cells live for about 120 days. By taking omega 3 consistently over a longer period, you can measure again afterwards and compare. Taking omega 3 is not a trend.

The fish oil is delivered to your home automatically for six months. Under the current terms, you can cancel the subscription after the first five months.

Make supplementing a routine

Want to be more mindful about your daily omega 3 intake? With the fish oil you easily build a fixed routine, without having to reorder every month.

Choose the package that suits you

Not everyone has the same needs and that is perfectly fine

That is why the brand I work with has developed several options. From omega 3 alone to the complete Health Concept.

Just want to get started? You can. Want to know first how your personal fatty acid balance is doing? Then choose the fatty acid test from option 2 onwards. And would you like to build out your daily foundation with high-quality products, instead of whatever is on the supermarket shelf? Then you can choose to add vitamin D3/K2 or go for the complete Health Concept.
